I was hoping someone and can fill me on this. I always hear about the weight of galil and because of this an M16 is a better choice. From want I read a M16 is 7.9lbs loaded and Galil is 10. To me this is not a big deal, sure a lighter weapon is nice to have after you've neen in the field for weeks. But have to spend more time cleaning a M16 and have to carry more cleaning kit. I like both, but I think the Galil is better because the AK design can stand the test of combat, and it always come though with less work on the part of user. But my question is and I hope there some people on this broad who know why the weight difference is so important. |

I agree with what's been said; unless your planning an LRP where you have to pack everything you need(food,water,shelter,gun,ammo,etc.=80+lbs) it probably doesn't matter. Get whatever "feels" right for you. However, be careful about how you compare guns. There are so many different configurations, each with a different weight, that comparisons can be difficult. Take a look at Bushmaster.com, for example, and note the various weights of the different versions. Also, visit world/guns.ru/assault/as18-e.htm, which has data for all the world's assault rifles. Per this site the M16A2 weighs 3.8kg vs. the Galil AR at 3.9kg (both unloaded). The older version, the M16A1 weighed only 2.9kg (6.4lbs). The HK33 also weighs about 3.9kg. Before I purchased my Galil AR, I took a close look at the Bushmaster XM15 with a 16" barrel. It does weigh less, but I find the Galil to be very balanced and weight effective, much more so than the M16A2 20" HB which is very front end heavy (and "feels" heavier than the Galil). My best suggestion for you is to compare them side by side and see which one "feels" right for you. Good luck! |
