LOL.  no its not.  it was on before you took it off.  I recommend NOT filing it down as its supposed to be tight fitting to retain zero on the sights.  if u can't get it back on, try 2x4 & mallet.

when you install it back on, left up on the front of the cover while you try to set the rear. You need strong hands for these rifles.

I'm sorry to disagree, but some topcovers will get sprung when 1st taken off., mine did , hit it so hard with a rubber mallet that it bent.Myself , a gunsmith, his assistant and a friend of mine spent hours trying to get it back on.Century replaced it, the defective bolt and possibly the barrel..either they changed out the barrel or rereamed it.The chamber was smooth as silk and there was the remains of machinest's blue marker. There are many complaints about ill fitting topcovers, some have got them back on, only to find they were canted, usually with a gap on the left side..Makes it almost impossible to zero the sights.either on this sight or the Uzi sight an engineer said they can spring and suggested taking small amounts off the front of the topcover with a file, until  it fits tightly.

What I did with mine to make it a little easier to get back on is I filed down just the bottom corner of the back of the cover so it doesn't change how tight it fits against the receiver but makes it a little easier to get on. I think I still need to take just a little more off.

The top cover is tune-able for the tension.
Place the top cover front down on a block of wood.
You should be staring at the hole for the recoil spring.
Across the bottom lip below the recoil hole is the lip that locks up in the reciever slot.
Use a small ballpen hammer and give the botton lip a couple of light taps.
Try fitting the top cover.
Repeat until the top cover requires a light karate chop with the heel of your hand.
If the top cover drops in it's too loose.
Turn the top cover around so that you are looking inside with the back/bottom on the block of wood.
Give it a light smack in the center.
That should tighten it up.
Files aren't a good idea as the top cover expands and contracts over time and once the metal is gone it's gone.
If you want to use a file use it on the reciever-it's what is out of spec.

Good to know. Generally I just use a rubber mallet to whack it back on so maybe I will just leave it at that. It's really the only PITA about the gun. Everything else has been great.
