I figure my ak front sight tool will work, but my problem is that the front sight post is really far down, and I can't get to it...any thoughts. Can i take apart the entire front sight to get at it?

My sight tool that came with my standard in the buttstock tubular cleaning kit almost was slotted deep enought to do the adjustment on the Golani, so all I did was file the slot a little bigger...it worked fine, then after I got it all done of course I found my old Galil front site adjustment tool....

I had the same problem but went thru these steps below...  would do at home first to get moving and then at range.

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=4&f=92&t=113715

I just bought a Century Arms Golani and tried to adjust the windage at the range (and I had tools with me) and could not do it. Rust/Dirt had frozen the windage adjustment so no matter how hard I pounded I could not get to move.

1. Remove both screws totally.
2. wd40 or corrosionx.com or some other type of oil/lubricant into the crack to penetrate.
3. cleanup other rust/dirt.
4. after a while you should be able to pound back and forth. do this at home before you go to range to get to move first.
5. then you can move normally at range (i still needed steel pin and something to pound with to get to move at range).

Successfully sighted in about 8 hours ago.

My sks windage/elevation tool will work on the elevation only (not windage). I tested at range and if I need to adjust it would have worked

thank you, but that really does not help at all....I can move it side to side, but I can not adjust the elevation...that's why I want to know if I can take the whole thing apart so raise the sight post.

Try some slender needle nose pliers. Or get the right tool.

Mine was too far down also, easy fix though.

Remove it completely by taking off the adjustment  screws. Don't lose the spring, washers, or night sight that will fall off when you remove it!

The bottom of the front sight post has a flat head screwdriver slot. Turn clockwise it until you can adjust it from the top with your AK sight tool.

Reassembly is a PITA.

Yesterday I joined the Golani Club.  I know, I know I have to post pics to prove this.

My front sight post also was WAY down.  I read the posts on this thread.  I removed the front sight assembly.  Once removed, I cranked the front sight post up.

Of course the little metal clip fell off.  I found it and thus began an adventure in small item hand to hand combat the likes of which I have not been involved in for many moons.

I used a gunsmithing mallet, a screwdriver, a brass puch, and a hemostat.

After 70+ minutes and after using every cuss word I learned at Parochial School...uh, I meant Infantry School, this task was completed.

The front sight assembly has been re-installed with no missing pieces or "extra" pieces.

I am going to head out to the range to see how this rifle performs.

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread.

Since it's difficult to find a tool that is not back ordered and I have no machining skills,
I stumbled upon a inexpensive tool that works perfectly and most will have in their tool box: a valve stem remover for tractor tires!
The one I have cost $3 and has both tractor and standard sizes.
I am going to modify the small end with a screwdriver head for the windage screws.
