This is a Yugo that we put together for a customer.  We fabricated an insert for the side folder unit, added our J-Tac47 compensator, our new extended mag release and a Red Star Arms FCG.

I took some pictures this afternoon for the customer and thought I would share.

ENJOY!

NICE! Any info about the mag release, esp is it a DIY project?

Yes - the mag releases are being anodized right now - we will have them ready to ship inside of two weeks.

The unit fits on any standard AK using an allen head screw on one side that pulls against an insert.  This requires no modification to your weapon (don't have to drill any holes) and can be taken off at any time.... although once you get used to it, you won't take it off.

Here is a better picture of the mag latch extension itself.

That's actually pretty nice looking!  Normally I wouldn't like to see a yugo altered, but I have to say I think that's a pretty nice side folder job.

Just curious: How much would it cost to convert a fixed stock yugo to a side folder (without the other stuff)?

All that it really requires is the adapter/insert so that the side folding mechanism (from ACE) will fit flush against the trunion.  We made this one for the build, but have the item in Solidworks and are considering doing a run of them if there is enough interest.  Other than that, you only need the ACE side folding mechanism and stock.

I agree with you in that I am normally not a fan of AR style stocks on AKs.  However, this particular version of the looks very much like the AK Sidefolder, only more comfortable, so it flows well with the rest of the rifle.

Very, very pretty - nice job!

I'm interested in the mag release extenders, when you have them ready. Bs sure to post them in the "new AK items" forum on here...

btw - how do you get such a nice white background for taking pics??

We will have the mag latch extensions in the bag by the middle of next week.  I will definitely make an announcement in the forum.

re: the white background - my other addiction is photography.  I have a pseudo studio in my home with the lights, backgrounds, etc.  And for the record - I'm a Canon guy.

I hate sidefolders.

But that might be the coolest one I've seen.

OR, it might just just be the (KICKASS!) photography.

Either way, good job!!!

Will the adapter fit on a Yugo RPK?

I'm 99% sure that it will - I will have to look at one to make certain, but from everything I've seen, the RPK reciever is the same as the standard M70.

If anyone has any other opinion - please let me know.  The Yugo RPK is one of the few guns we don't have in the shop.

I have a Yugo  RPK. If the adapters aren't a fortune I'll be the guinea pig.
It will save you the price of an RPK.

The pistol grip is from the original Yugo, as is the wood.  However, we have been looking at some of the Ironwood stuff for some fixed stock builds.

The finish is Black Oxide done professionally here in town.

The comp is awesome and I'm not just saying that because we make it.  It really works great and makes the gun a lot more fun to shoot!

Hey Todd,

What kind of soft of soft cases are those? And are they for side/underfolder's???

Great looking sidefolder!

Doug.

[#23]
Hey Doug - Thanks!

The cases are from Tac Force - they have a nice website, but no prices and such.  Impact Guns has prices, but no pictures.

I took some pictures to help answer some questions in another thread -

www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=19&t=307378

There are obviously other cases out there - but I think the Tac-Force cases are pretty hard to beat for the money.

Nice looking Yugo. I bet that side folder feels better than the underfolder.
12/26/2006 6:32:24 PM EDT
[#25]
It certainly is MUCH more comfortable than the underfolder - in fact, it is a very acceptable substitute for the fixed stock - and I'm a big fixed stock fan.  I will probably convert my personal Yugo to this version very shortly.
