Field stripped my M70AB2 for the first time to clean and I noticed the Recoil Spring Assembly is covered in an opaque petroleum jelly-like goo.  The space where the Recoil Spring Assembly slides into the Bolt Carrier has this goo in there too.

Should I completely clean the Recoil Spring Assembly and Bolt Carrier to remove this goo (and re-lube) or leave it be?

At first I thought it was cosmoline but I recall cosmoline is usually gold/brown in color.  This stuff looks like Vaseline.
