I'm a little overwhelmed with all the Yugo variants that are available right now, but I was thinking of getting an N-PAP. I like that it has a lighter weight receiver, but what AK variant does it resemble?
I know the O-PAP is an M70, but what is the N-PAP? Is it an actual military variant or just something made for the commercial market? Obviously the military versions are select fire, but did the Serbians ever issue an AK with the thinner receiver like the N-PAP in 7.62x39? And last, the N-PAP's do come with double stack bolts correct? Thanks |

The NPAP has a 1mm receiver based on the AKM receiver, unlike the OPAP which has a RPK bulged 1.5mm receiver. Yes it is lighter. It doesn't really matter, as the bulged is designed to strengthen the receiver during full auto fire. If you do get a NPAP, get one with a serial number over say 5000-6000 to make sure you get one with a double stack bolt. The early production NPAPs had a single stack bolt. Century is actually coming out with a NPAP under folder. The wood is nicer on the NPAP than the OPAP as well. When you look into buying a NPAP, disassemble it to verify the double stack bolt. Century will replace it if you have a single stack, but it is a PIA to deal with them and get it properly headspaced. The M70 was designed with the thicker 1.5mm RPK receiver, but that does not disqualify the NPAP as a military rifle, because it never was, neither is the OPAP. Both are sporting rifles with only semi automatic trigger groups and capabilities.
You can tell the difference between a single vs double stack bolt here (The double stack is the bigger bolt on the right) You can view what the upcoming NPAP underfolder looks like here |
