Recently stripped my SKS down and gave it a thorough cleaning. Went to snap the trigger group back in and it will not stay in. Indent is there but doesn't seem to be moving forward to engage.
Any thoughts or remedies?

Sounds like you just don't have the trigger group pushed in far enough. I've found the SKS Trigger Group Reinstallation Tool to be invaluable (pictured here overlooking the SKS Sight Adjustment Tool):
