Bought a used Norinco SKS Paratrooper model.  At some point in its life someone machined the receiver to accept a double-stack magazine.  I bought it with one 5-round magazine.  Somewhere on the forums I read that the SKS double-stack uses AK-47 magazines.  So then I bought some 30-round AK magazines from Cabela's but the rear tang does not reach the magazine lock.  Anybody know where I can get some more magazines for this rifle?  I would like to get a higher capacity than 5.  By the way for some reason I can not load more than 4 rounds and close the bolt.  It seems that the when 5 rounds are loaded in the magazine the tip of bullet hangs up on the chamber when the bolt attempts to close.  Tried deburring the chamber a little but no help.

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure all SKSs use double stacks,  I've never seen anything else.

What does this 5 round mag look like?  Does it have a piece that extends forward about 2"s compared to the AK mags?

If so, then what you probably have is an unmodified SKS with the factory fixed magazine removed.  To remove the mag, the trigger group is removed, the mag pulled out and the trigger group reinstalled.  In that configuation you can use what are commonly called 'Duckbill' sks mags, which can be found in 5, 10, 20, 30 round sizes and even some bigger ones.

Some people have good luck with these mags, and some people curse them.

If your SKS is indeed unmodified with the fixed mag removed, then you could do one of two things:
1.  Return to stock, with a fixed 10 round, or stockish with a fixed 20 round. (my choice)
2.  Use the duckbill mags.  If you choose this route, read the post tacked at the top of the SKS page first.

If your sks has indeed been modified, you might want to post some pictures of your mag and the magwell of the SKS.

I own an SKS Paratrooper.  Mine is nothing more than a stock sks with a shortened barrel.  It has a fixed magazine.  The factory chicom detachable mag (ak type) sks's are the D and M models.

Oh, and I tried to IM and email you, but you have both diabled.  I have extra chinese factory fixed mags, and USA brand duckbill 30 rounders that I don't need.
You should really turn one or both of the IM or email on, so people can better help you.
If for some reason you don't want to do that, then email me.  I can email you back directly.  But if you IM me and you don't turn yours on, then I can't talk back to you.

Email and IM now on.  It is not a "duckbill" magazine.  I bought the rifle used.  The person didn't know much about SKS's and neither do I.  I believe it is a paratrooper version with a short barrel, no bayonet lug.   It is a Norinco with the following model number, MC-5D.  It has a detachable 5-round magazine.  I matched the magazine with one at a local gun shop, they told me it is an AK-47 magazine.

IIRC, paratrooper Type D or M (Chinese Type 68 and 68/72) use regular AK47 mags

I bought two 30-round AK-47 magazines from Cabela's and they don't fit.  The magazines will not catch the magazine box latch.

Hmmmm.  Doesn't have a duckbill mag and won't take AK47 mags?  Got pics of the SKS, especially of the mag well?

Yes I do have pictures of the magwell and magazine.  However I have never posted here and I don't have a host website to post the pictures.  Any advice as to where I can post the pictures, i.e. free host website?
