I just picked up my first Yugo SKS, and I was going to replace the stock i saw this combination on ebay for 84 dollars.  I know its not top quality, but I'm just looking for a gun to go plinking with.  Anyone ever try one of these combo's?

Just my opinion but save your money for another SKS or ammo or something useful.  The problem I have had with the scope mount receiver cover is that it either blocks the use of stripper clips or it's too close to the eye.

Composite stocks are O.K. I guess but I am one of many in the SKS community that appreciates the wood (some of which may be older than you) and enjoys the process of releasing the beauty of these rifles much the same as a sculptor removes unwanted material on a block of wood or stone to reveal the work of art trapped beneath (wow, that was really well put).

It is your rifle and you can do what you want, but I have to ask why???  Milsurp rifles were designed to shoot as they were built and do it well.  Not to mention most of the aftermarket crap is crap.

I have the composite stock that you are interested in;its comfortable and versatile(the collapsable stock) but I agree with both of the previous responses. I'm not sure what the firearms laws are in PA, but if you want the tactical advantage that stock gives you, go for an AR. If its the 7.62 you crave, then go with an AK....I, however, live in the prison called "Kalifornia"...so I am forced to make due...Oh, and I think an SKS is better without a scope. But thats just me.

Oops, I forgot to add that if you are interested in just the stock, Military Gun Supply has one for $51($64 with shipping)

Just remember, if this was one of the C&R Yugos once you change the stock from something other than a original configuration you have to add 10 US parts otherwise you are in violation of 922(r)

With a Yugo there are 9 parts which need USA made replacements: muzzle attachment, op-rod, gas piston, buttstock, pistol grip, handguards, mag body, follower, and floorplate. There is debate as to whether the op-rod is counted as well as the floorplate, but better safe than sorry. The T6 stock solves 3 of the parts problems. An aftermarket mag addresses 3 more parts, leaving only a USA made brake, op-rod and gas piston.

922(r) is a "no more than 10 imported parts" game.

The T6 stock is a good upgrade for the lowly SKS. It makes the weapon "feel right". It points better, is easier to bring on target, not to mention lighter than any of the other aftermarket stocks.

If ya cain't tell, I got a T6 on my bubba'd Yugo and one of them fancy new-fangled Tapco magazines. If'n I could find a decent scope mount, I'da put a red-dot on it too... jest not one of them receiver cover ones. They suk.

(redneck proud!... which might be an oxymoron)

edit: To answer the original poster, the stock is great, the optics are magrinal, the scope mount is poor. Get the stock and associated compliance parts. I believe there is a Scout Scope mount that attaches to the rear sight base, but I have not tried it.
