I know, this started out as how would it be legal to purchase such a weapon (if one existed) & have it registered.

I have decided to drop the issue, supposedly there are several weapons available that would be ALOT of fun but I'm not sure the required paperwork is there.

You do know how post 1986 machine guns are viewed legally don't you?

Semi-automatic Carbine Simonov.

Chinese Type 68 rifle looked similar to their Type 56 (SKS clone), IIRC it was select. But it was not an SKS. More like a hybrid SKS/AK-47.

Is this thread lost?

Yup that crap is illegal. Thats why I'm am wlaking away from it. The guy that owns it however bought an entire estate & does not know what he has or the legalities of it.

What would be the point of a full auto rifle with a fixed 10 round mag?

How does he know it is full auto?
Did he fire it and did it fire in full auto?
If so, it may just be that there is debris stuck in the firing pin channel - full auto is a symptom of this.

Nice issue in SAR a couple months ago on the various types and designs of the SKS.

Surprisingly, the PRC DID make a select fire SKS.  I had always heard that they were all semi's, but that isn't the truth.  Read the story, see the pics in SAR.

Who said it had to have a 10 round mag?

Simonov did.  Anything else is a redneck abortion unless you are talking about an SKS-M or -D.  In which case its merely pointless.

Yes and no. The Chinese had a version with a rotating bolt that accepted AK mags that was select fire.

Was just curious. When I was told about it I had never heard of such a critter. I am doubting however that these items are full auto's. I don't think the guy knows the difference between full & semi. The more I hear the more I think I am right .

There were some trigger groups imported from China that allowed FA. This would be the most pointless FA ever made IMHO.

I dont think any were pre 86 though.

Possesion of one and the rifle would be a crime.

The fcg is easier to swap than to modify, which IMHO is why you see all those spare trigger groups fs... You can prob sell it legal as milk with a new trigger pack after tossing the existing one. Technically once a mg always a mg, but if there are no rec mods it would be more like asking a drop in sear question in the FA forum.

Turned out to be a plain sks & ar. The guy has no clue about firearms & thought a semi & full auto were the same thing. For the best anyway.
