Can I change out the Monte Carlo stock on my SKS and put on the side folder?
I also need to know whats involved in converting it to accept 30 rd mags.
I had left it like it is for a long time because I was in jersey and the detachable mag SKS is a no no in jersey.
Now I'm in Pa, I want to update to take detachable mags and refit it with the folder or maybe even a light wt stock.

Thanks

replacing the stock is about a 20 minute swap. that's disassembly and reassembly. as for the milling process.... can't help you.

before making any mods to the stock make sure the detachables work in the rifle and feed right.

If you're talking about the "duckbill" mags, see the thread tacked in this forum first. If you're talking about AK mags, you need a gunsmith who's done it before.

Yes I have two that I have converted to folders.  You need a US folder, US Hand Guard, US Piston, US OP Piston (the small piston), and a US 30 round duckbill mag.

I agree with Polythenepam be sure that the 30 round mags work well in your gun 1st.  Tapco has everything that you need.  You can shop around and get the folding stock cheaper somewhere else as Tapco has started selling their own stocks...MadDog

First off, congrats on getting out of Jersey.

But please, don't let the TAPCO fairy consume another perfectly good SKS.
Plus you have to get US made parts to be compliant with all of the feel good legislation laws if you use the Tapco stock that is just really fugly IMO...

The majority of after-market SKS hi-cap mags are trash and a major PITA; they are cheap, flimsy, and not in any way reliable.
Keep the 10 rounder internal mag lying around until you come to realizing that it was made that way for a good  reason:
the attached mag works all the time and keeps it  simply all that the SKS should be, a 10 round rifle with wood stock that likes to eat lots of stripper clips

FIRST OFF, IF YOU JUST WANT A GUN TO GO OUT AND SHOOT THE SCHINTT OUT OF THINGS
DONT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THE SKS. GO BUY A WSAR, OR SAR-1, OR SOME OTHER
LOW PRICED AK.  AS FOR THE DUCKBILL MAGS, I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE HI-CAP MAGS WORK LIKE THEY SHOULD IN AN SKS. IF YOU JUST WANT THE SKS FOR HOME PROTECTION, OR RANGE PRACTICE, IN THE STOCK FORM IT WILL DO YOU WELL. IF YOU NEED MORE THAN THE TEN ROUNDS IT HOLDS TO PROTECT YOURSELF
YOU ARE IN TROUBLE ALREADY.

An SKS is an SKS, an AK-47 is an AK-47. Never the twain shall meet.

Had a SKS for about six months and have seen some screwed up SKS's . Don't do it ! The guys who do never are satisfied and always need to do one more thing to get it "right"

Go buy a Ak-47 if you want a folder with a higher capcity mag.
