www.combatstocks.com/SKS_Value_Package.cfm i am in no way a pro shooter, nor even intermediate. i would say better than beginner. do yall think this scope would be of any use at all? all i use my sks for is to mess around with out at the range, and i think the package is a good deal...most places charge $50 for just the scope and mount. if not, what scope/mount do yall recommend? thanks, sa |

Not that I'd recommend it, but if you absolutely must get a cheap receiver mount for your SKS, get the one with the set screws on it. None of these are all that great, but at least the screws give a tiny bit more stability. Personally, if you're looking for an affordable way to improve the accuracy of your SKS, I'd get a fire sight set from Williams. Its less headache than the cheap scopes, looks better, and allows you to clean the rifle without losing your zero. Sportsmansguide.com has them for around $35. I do as well or better with it at 100yds than with the receiver mounted 4X32 scope. |

www.scoutscopes.com/ Give this site a looksie! I installed one on my Yugo and it works great! |

Just remember, the SKS is NOT a sniper rifle! I wouldn't be expecting 1/2" groups from an sks scope or not! Try pie plate sized at 100 yards! Why do you think it's hard to mount a scope on them hat) but I do consider it a bit overboard (DO NOT TAKE OFFENSE TO MY STATEMENT'S. IT IS JUST AN OPINION!) |
| BTW, those groups were not with this rifle. They were with the middle rifle with one of those cheesy scope mounts like sa1126 was asking about. sa1126, you can get groups like this, but every time you take it to the range you spend some time re-zeroing it unless you get a more secure mount. I wouldn't worry too much about ruining collectibility, since there are so many of these in the country anyway. Just look at the Norincos which are no longer imported, but still go for around $175-$200. If you count for inflation, that isn't a lot more then they originally cost anyway. |
I wasn't referring to your "shooting skill", I was actually referring to the rifle h=85% Those were at 50yds I would expect the groups to look like that at 50 yds! I was referring to 100 and beyond h=85% I wouldn't worry too much about ruining collectibility, since there are so many of these in the country anyway. True, but why ruin a piece of history! If they were meant to be "sniper rifles" they would already be drilled and tapped! Like I said, it's just my opinion! Just trying to save the guy some time and money. |

Quoted: I wasn't referring to your "shooting skill", I was actually referring to the rifle What's the difference? I suck and can still do better than 4MOA. That means the rifle is at least capable of my groups, and prob better. I would expect the groups to look like that at 50 yds! I was referring to 100 and beyond Those were the only photos I had, but if you extrapolate you can see that 100yds will be about 4", as I said before. I've seen guys do better, but my eyesight isn't that good (bad lasik) True, but why ruin a piece of history! If they were meant to be "sniper rifles" they would already be drilled and tapped! If there are 100,000 of these things in the US, then it will be a LONG time before there is any "collectors" value to them. There are plenty of mausers/enfields/mosins drilled or modified or sporterized, and there are still so many originals of them on the market that you can buy them for less than the cost of a couple cases of ammo. Besides, if he gets the receiver cover mount he originally mentioned, he won't be drilling it anyway. Regardless, I'll get this puppy to the range in the next week or so and we'll see about those "pie plate" sized groups |
