the marcus mag adapter-it works scout mount- its good to go with use of my laser bore site when i take it off to clean i use a cutom target and re align it. love this thing. the red dot is a sparc. i redid the trigger and modded the bolt, blued the bolt and carrier cut down a alby black bayonet |

5 rd polymer legal for hunting with here in MI. That one also has the bolt mod done to it. I have a non-matching 10rd factory mag for it, but it was a Polytech hunter rifle set up with a 5rd steel box mag that said Made in China in script that I traded for the original mis-matched 10rd'er. I also have a couple Tapco 20's for it too. It had this scope mount on it that I sold on ebay for $70+

ChiCom and a Ex DRR Soviet I still have the factory 10rd magazines for it. No harm came to the stocks while seeing if the Tapco mags fit. |

The previous owner claimed to have fired it only 90 rounds then stored it in the safe. It didn't matter to me cause I wanted a shooter to play with, not "collect". But I must say this is the cleanest SKS I've owned, not a single dot of rust. Unfortunately he trashed the box.

I posted this a while back in a projects gun thread but I figure it would go good in the pics thread here...
My first rifle I ever bought around 2004 was a Yugo 59/66 SKS. I knew nothing about guns at the time, just thought it was awesome sitting there on the Big 5 rack. Turned out it had a massively corroded barrel and gas system, and was practically worthless as a shooter. It would not cycle reliably, and even once I fixed the gas system issues using an oversized stainless selector valve, the barrel was so pitted and worn that it wouldn't stay on paper at 100 yards. The upside was it set me on a head-first plunge into amateur gunsmithing. I nearly threw the rifle away at one point years back, but decided to keep it around. Fortunately over that ten years I developed enough gunsmithing skills to actually restore it. I finally tore it down and rebarreled it this year. I purchased three $15 Chinese surplus SKS barrels/receiver stubs from Numrich - it took three of them to find one that was in perfect shape. One had multiple rings and visible external bulging, the other had a small ring near the muzzle, the last one was perfect and looked never-fired on the inside, despite having some external use wear and surface rust, which required a lot of oil and steel wool to clean up. I was able to send off the the third barrel to someone in Montana who is building straight-pull only "target SKS" from it - so at least it got some use, while the other one was scrap. I used the trashed barrel to experiment and see how easily it would untread from the receiver stub. Ultimately I had to cut part of the receiver stub on the donor barrel, and split the stub open, because the threads were totally seized. Threading the barrel into the Yugo receiver, it was severely under-timed, so I had to remove a decent amount of material from the Yugo receiver face to get the Chicom barrel to properly index tightly. I then peened it in place at four spots. Fortunately, all of the Yugo barrel components fit just fine on the Chicom barrel, and most of the pin locations were close enough to only require a slight reaming. I used the Yugo gas shutoff valve, so that I could use the rifle as a straight-pull if desired. I used a surplus Chicom FSB, and was able to use the original Yugo bayonet by replacing the bayonet lock collar with a Chicom lock collar. Unfortunately, when I first bought the rifle, I promptly cut off and threw away all of the Yugo launcher hardware, so that was not an option - the Chicom barrel is too short for it any way. Once the rifle was reassembled, it took several nights to get the Yugo bolt headspaced to the Chicom barrel - lots of careful filing of the locking shoulder of the bolt, as it was way overtight at first. Once headspace was achieved and test fired, I cold-blued the barrel assembly. The rifle now functions flawlessly and is very accurate as well. It used to be impossible to get on paper at 100yd, and now it groups tighter than my practically brand-new Norinco DP. Most people would not rebarrel an SKS, but considering that it was my first ever rifle, and I spent less than $50 in parts to achieve the job, I'd say it was a positive outcome.

So a blade on a '63 is correct. |
