I'm looking for a Russian sks and found this one in my state.

Description: Russian manufactured SKS style rifle with a laminate wood stock in very good condition with an excellent, chrome-lined bore. A 20rd magazine and a vented steel handguard have been added. It has matching numbers on the receiver, stock, trigger group and bolt. No bayonet.

Is this a Russian sks. What does he mean style rifle, also he's asking $239.00 is that a good price?

I don't care about the stock it will get replaced with a synthetic one.

looks as described.  maybe he just added "style" (?)

for that price, I'd be looking for all original parts (guard, bayo, etc..)

You can pick up an unmolested one (all original parts and matching numbers) for $250-$300.

Who knows if the aftermarket mag works any good too. I'd go for an "unmolested" one.

Yeah, I'd say that was a little high since it's been modified.  Now if the person still has all the original parts that were removed to add the HG and the 20rd. mag, I would say that was a good price for a Russian.

From my experience the 20rd. mags do not work dependably.  To get most of them to work, you will need to do a bit of tweaking.  Goto www.simonov.net to check out info on identifying Russian, Chinese, etc. made SKS's.

Russians that have all the original parts are getting a little harder to find in "unbubbafied" condition.  If you do pick up an all original SKS, I'd leave it as-is.  The design is simple and reliable, no need to change it up.  That's just my opinion and I've went throught the modfiying stage, I've just learned to appreciate the original design.

Hope this helps a little.

On a side note -- If you do start modifying a SKS or any old gun, hang on the original parts.  DOn't sell them.  That way if you ever need or want to sell the gun at a later date, you'll be able to get more for it.

If you shoot it ,the synthetic stocks are more user friendly in my opinion. the wood stock is alittle short for americans. I like the advanced tech dragonov but it took some serious filing to make it comfortable to me. I also took some out of the length to. The nice thing is it is modifiable.
Russian sk's are not as plentiful as other versions and are better quality ,so I don't think it looked like a bad deal. I like the metal vent guard better any way.

Enjoy playing with it ,they are fun to modify and shoot.
