| I was wondering what kind of magnification and brand you guys recomend for my chinese sks. Im looking to do some 100-300 yrd shots....maybe even more if my gun can handle the distance. Also i was wondering if i could buy a regular bushnell rifle scope as long as I have an sks mount, or does the scope have to be made for the sks rifle....Thanks, Dan |

I was using a chicom 4x28 scope but have since went with a cheapo 3x9x40 tasco on my sks. For the simple fact that I needed more magnification to shot beyond 100 yards. As for mounts, I have been using leapers high rise see threw mounts for several years now, and have since added a shell deflector (these are a must in my opinion)so your scope doesnt get beat up by flying brass. Tapco.com sells the mounts and shell defectors for if I remember right $24 or so plus shipping. I personally like the leapers mounts over any other I have tried, they have 4 locking screws that allow you to keep the mount secure so you will not lose zero. As of yet never had a problem holding zero when removing this mount for cleaning so that is always a plus. hope that helps have a nice day..and welcome to ar15.com |
| Thanks for the reply and friendly welcome! How do you like that 9x msgnification? What kind of range does that give you? How would that make a deer look at say 300 yards? And so your saying a bushnell would work if i just got a mount that is made for the sks, and added a shell deflector for precautions? Thanks again, Dan |

The best way to mount a scope for an SKS is by drilling and tapping the side of the receiver. Anything that mounts to the dust cover will not be stable enough to secure a mount and keep it's zero. There are a couple mounts that require drilling and tapping, and they do require relieving the stock a little. |

Optics are pretty much up to you. but yes that bushy would work. If you are going to get the leapers buy the shell deflector as well it is a must for the longer scopes. I normally limit my range on deer with a 7.62x39 round to about 150yards however I have shot steel turkeys out to 250 yards. But for live animals like deer I normally limit it to 150 yards. Like I said once before I have never had a problem with my scope mount holding zero (lock tight is your friend) However as you can see everyone has an opinion on this board to what way they think is best, this is what works for me and has for several years and yes I have taken several deer with my sks over the years. |
