Has anyone here tried the fixed 20-rounders? I have heard that most of those detachables are not reliable and crappy. here is a fixed 20-rounder for $56. However, this looks like the exact same thing for $37.

Is there someplace cheaper for these? Are they pretty reliable?

The fixed 20s are both reliable and legal.  The duckbills are generally neither.  Shop for best price but the Chinese 20s are reported to be the best.

I ahve a Norinco SKS with  a 20 that looks to be factory installed, or done by a good 'smith.

Never had a feed problem, it works real well.

EDIT-- After looking at your links, I have the type that Numrich is selling, with the star on the side.

i recently purchased a C&R russian SKS. Will placing a fixed 20 on it nullify it's C&R status?

Nam, just a head's up...I used to have a Russian SKS and I could not get the fixed 20 round mag(ChiCom) to fit. I was told by the guy at a gunshop that the Russian SKS wouldn't take the Chinese mags. I am wondering whether the Yugo SKSs will. I wouldn't mind a 20 rounder on mine!

Yugo's will take the chicom 20. My roomie's got a yugo, and he put a fixed 20 on it (without star). Works pretty well. Some minor problems feeding now and then, but nothing major.

Nam, Thanks for the info. Might have to consider putting a fixed 20 rounder on my wish list!LOL

Here is a pic of my Yugo with a 20 rounder ChiCom and bipod.  The Mag works great, by the way. Had to bend one of the feed lips, but that is all.

I tried one of the Chicom "star", fixed 20 round mags and never had any luck with it.  Just about the time I got it to feed reliably the follower arm broke.

From mine and others experience it's kind of a hit or miss thing with these.

YMMV

I've had and used a few of these on Russian and Chinese SKS rifles. They can be had for about twenty bucks at a gunshow. Look for the unmarked chinese welded one instead of the stamped one. They are heavier and seem to fit and work better.

New to the SKS environment, and just curious if you guys could lend direction on a 20 round magazine I am considering buying.  In particular is this the cheap (?) Chimcon version or the good Chinese version?  Also, what is it worth?  Below are pics:
