I have used various manf metal mags without any issues in the "M" model I use to own.

I also used to own one and am in the market again.
I only used metal mags, all with success.

With my AK mag SKS's I have found they like the Chinese the best, but work with anything, but the Chinese mags are easier to insert an lock in place.

It is common for aftermarket AK mags to need filing on the bottom of the catch on the back of the mags in order to latch into the weapon.

This.  When I get new AK mags, unless they are rare variants, I file the catch tabs to fit my AK perfectly.

Poly mags and SKS-Ms do not make friends easily; stick with metal mags (preferably Chinese surplus).

I have found that bulgarians will not seat in mine. The polish polymers with steel locking lugs and feed lips lock up fine and just about any metal mag locks up fine but for some reason no bulgarian mags I have tried in my m will lock up at all on the front latch.
