I have a 53 Tula sks i bought awhile back & it does not look like it was re-arsenaled, only thing not matching is the mag box. Is there anyway to tell? Also read somewhere awhile back cant remember where, that the Russians supposedly stamped the guns somewhere ranking the guns 1-3?  If this is true would someone shed some light on this. Thanks.

Re-arsenaled guns usually have a square with a diagonal line stamped into the stock.   As far as the number 1 to 3 ranking, that number is usually on the front sight tower, on the flat side facing the muzzle.  The #1 supposedly designates the most accurate SKS', or so I've heard.

The only markings on the stock other than serial number is an almost upside down B behind the reciver cover. As fas as markings on the sight post i have what looks like 2 triangles inside one looks like a 3 & inside the other looks like a 4. The triangle with a 4 looks like it has a line through it. Very hard to read these being so small.
