I have a poly tech sks hunter model serial number 0000## is this a shooter or with low serial number one to put away.  I purchased it in 1994 and have not shot it yet but was thinking about giving it to the kid to shoot.

Try posting on Survivor's SKS Forums - you will get some good feedback on this.

I would think it would be one to hold on to or sell - and just buy a cheaper more common SKS for your son to shoot.

WARNING !!! Make sure that you tear down the bolt,remove the firing pin.Clean the pin and the area that it sit's in. Cosmoline will keep that pin in a forward position and will fire when cocking the rifle. It happened to me with a new ChiCom SKS that i thought i got all the cosmoline out of.......................

I would hold on to it and put it away then buy another SKS for you kid to shoot because they are cheap and plentiful
