The AWB Sunset will allow you to have a functioning folding stock on your Krinkov. In order to have a short barrel and a folding stock, it must be registered as an SBR "Short Barreled Rifle" with your local Law Enforcement Agency. Plus it will cost you $200 for the tax stamp. If you want the short barrel with no capability of accepting a butt stock, then you should go for an AOW "Any Other Weapon" which will cost you a $5 tax stamp, but you must have a front pistol grip on the weapon. | If the AW ban sunsets I believe that we will have the option of having a Krinkov as Title 1 pistol. Right now what works against this is the requirement that an unloaded pistol must not weigh more than 50 ounces; also it cannot have handguards to protect the barrel and gas tube. These requirements will disappear if the ban sunsets. You can have a semi-auto Krinkov without a stock and without the vertical foregrip that is required of an AOW. |
Hold that thought... Anyone know if there have been any 5.45x39 handguns built so far? AFAIK, there aren't any AK pistols in 5.45x39; which means that technically, 5.45x39 AP ammo is still legal... I know the other two AK calibers are covered, so that's that. ETA: I have contacted the ATF regarding this issue. Hopefully, I'll get a response soon. It would be nice having something other than 5.45 w/ lead core. |
