Offer as little as you think he'll take

I'd be willing to pay around $400.

$250...

I know of a shop that has 5 NIB maadi ARM ban models for $350 and nobody wants em. Good guns IMHO though, I'd buy one if I had the cash but you want a deal so offer $250

How much is he asking for it?  On gunbroker I have watched a number of Maadi rifles sitting at $400.00 with no bids.  If you buy one and want to change out the stock it is going to cost about $50.00 for compliance parts and then you need a stock unless you modify the thumbhole by cutting and refinishing.  Since on gunbroker you need to pay shipping and FFL fees that will up the price.  If you can get it for $400.00 or less I don't think it would be a bad deal, any more is probably too much.  $300.00 would be a starting point.

I've found a NIB ARM Intrac Maadi (1993), box, papers, manual, sling, etc.
The shop is asking $450.00. This thread here seems to suggest that that is a little high. Is is it?
And in another thread here, (AK reference/AK's in order of quality) has the Maadi'  close to last place.
I'm not an AK pro, but I remember not long ago, Egyptian Maadi's were considered the cat's ass. What happened?
These Maadi's aren't parts guns like the Lancasters/Vectors/Sierra and so on, but real - manufactured in Egypt
under one roof AK's.
What am I missing here? Should I buy it? ( I put it on layaway so I could touch base with some of ya'll
on your opinions before I totally committed.) As an aside, there were three in the shop when I walked in
first thing saturday morn. and two were sold within half an hour. So I put the last one on layaway in a panic buy mode sorta of thing.

The preban Maadi's are coveted, but you're not talking preban.  The quality varies depending on which postban one your looking at but it is still a postban rifle and you don't want to get one of the Chinese parts ones. If it is one in a thumbhole stock configuration then the added cost has to be factored in to unban it.  Still, if you don't have any local sources of the other choices then you get what you can.  If you wait too long you may end up with nothing if you don't have one now.

I see what you're saying Mak, and it makes sense. Sooo--
to quote JedYonkers and take his advise I "BBOught it!"
And I will "urban" it while keeping the original upper and lower hand grips.
Mat, at Iron Wood is making those fat Bulgarian wood pistol grips this week in laminate and I'll use the Romanian wire folder stock with an all American magazine/gas piston/ brake/ and trigger group. I should be countable and some what still Maadish.
Thank you all for the help.

Wise choice, I have about the same set up on my ARM, wire folder original wood, blk plastic grip. You should enjoy it.

Wow, they've really gone up in price!  The last ones I saw for sale were in July 2001 at Classic Arms near Charlotte, NC for $165.  I should have bought a dozen!z

I like the Maadis (other than the paint finish) and think they are a great AK variant. I don't see them for less than $400-450 generally.

Agreed.  It ended at $735.  That's ridiculous considering the last ones I saw for sale were post-bans for $165.z

Here's another used Intrac Maadi, partially unbanned, 4 bids by two bidders.
$731. 18 hours left at this post time.
Anybody see a trend yet?

I saw it, it's yours?  I can't believe you sold a postban ARM for $731.01.  A sucker is born every minute.  I might have to put some more rifles up for sale.
