Just got my Completed Saiga conversion back from Chris Butler @ AKUSA.
I stated the conversion right after college started back for the fall. I did as much as i could myself and then turned it over to Chris.

I welded and blended up the holes myself, with my friends tig torch.

I got the inside blended down nicely.

Got the double hook configuration cut out.

I got Chris to install on of his own muzzle breaks, a K-var Bullet guide, and powder coat the entire rifle for me. He also had to machine the RSA trigger group to work with the retainer and the bolt hold open device.
The fit and finish after he got done with it, is outstanding.

Before:

After:

I have 7 US parts on it right now to make me legal.
RSA trigger group/ with retainer plate.
K-var US made buttstock.
ACE galil pistol grip.
Robinson Arms 223 followers.
AKUSA Muzzle break.

All in all it was a great experience as my first conversion project.
Chris as always did a great job for me.
I can't ask for a better Ak Smith.

Yes, very nice indeed. If I could only score a .223 Saiga for $150, I'd be doing a conversion like this myself.

Thanks guys. I was a great learning project for me.
I cant wait to get it out to the range. The weather has been nasty here and with school starting back up I havent had much time.

I am already looking toward doing a 7.62x39 20" saiga starting in febuary.

Saiga Rifle at www.cdnninvestments.com download the catalog to see 7.62 russian is $159.99 .223 $199.99 and 308 is $229

Good price for a reliable as hell rifle even if you dont do the conversion.

Right! I have one of the 7.62 x 39 Saiga "K" 's and I love it! What a bargain, just as it is...but a converted .223? Wow!

How well do the robinson followers work in the bulgy 5.45 mags?  All 30 go in fine, feed ok, etc???  How much are the robinson followers also?  I will be getting a buttload of Bulgy 5.45 mags for the SEAK, and I have been wanting to do a conversion on a .223 saiga without having to buy weigers or worse yet the 223 waffle mags.  Thanks!  Good looking rifle.

nice job.  I like the welded holes much more than the rivet 'fillers' that are sometimes used.

take care,

Thanks Tec-nine, I figured since I know how to weld I would go that way instead of screws or rivets.
It makes for a cleaner finish.

drew5337,
I have yet to have a FTF with the converted bulgy mags. I can get in 30 with no problem.
The Robinson Followers are $ 5.99 apiece.

The price of bulgy’s is more appealing to me as well. There is no slop what so ever in these, and they are a very tight fit.

I had considered using the weigers as well but, glad I went the way I did.

INFANTRY, could you repost some pictures of the completed rifle, their too dark and I want to see the detail of the work done. I would like to do a project like yours.

I had Chris do my .223 Saiga conversion. It takes the Bulgy waffle mags and works and looks great. It's one of my favorites.

As far as i know he can. The conversion can be done with high cap m14 mags if i am not mistaken.

It would be best to call Chris for a more direct awnser @ (239)334-4231
