I'm also doing a 7.62 and everything has gone smoothly thanks to MRW thread. The 223 has had a few diff. quirks from the 7.62. The bullet guide on the 223 is nearly twice as thick on the front of it's lip compared to the 7.62 guide. So if you're considering one of these and you're going to use a peice of pipe you'll need to consider this. My 74 has a similar guide that it came with that if you have access to you can look at. I got my weiger mags from I/O took 2 wks. On these I had to grind app. 1mm off the front of the lip and 2mm on the sides back 3/8 in. Now the mag still didn't lock up it was binding on the backside. There is a ridge that slopes from the latch prong to the top of the mag. As I put the mag in I could see where the mag was binding and had to decrease the hight of the slope by 1/3. The mag then fit flush but the latch wouldn't lock, prong to thick. I first started to remove material on the latch and remembered how long it took on the 762 so I dremmeled each of my 8 mags. All mags fit snug including the 10 rd that came with the rifle, Loaded the mags hand cycled no ftf or fte next is live fire test. Also found that my 762 mags will lock into this rifle but the weigers will not lock into the 762 or my sar1 without more grinding. |
