Came across the preconverted Saigas and I was wondering about the quality and I had a couple other questions. Do the preconverted ones already have a bullet guide installed and accept a standard AK mag? And if I wanted to change out the stock, do they accept the same standard AKM stocks like a WASR can? I'm mainly interested since it's a Russian rifle at a pretty nice price point. I'm specifically looking at the converted Saiga AK74.

( YES   If you move the fire control group (Trigger and Hammer) to the 'normal' AK forward position) I'm mainly interested since it's a Russian rifle at a pretty nice price point. SAIGAs are Russian AKs made in the same factory as the military AK.   They have chrome lined bbls and are well made great conversion projects.

You can convert a Saiga to a nice AK clone but remember that the more you change (lower handguard requires a conversion plate or modification to the bbl to mount., upper handguard requires a standard AK gas tube vs. the saiga bare tube, Rear Stock, pistol grip, fire control group) then the more work and the more it will cost.

Look in the AK forum under the Russian category for the thread with Saiga conversions.  All different flavors to be found.
