Ok, what's the secret here boys?  I don't want to keep banging on the thing and take a chance of tearing up or bending the barrel, but the pin isn't budging.  Is removing the front sight base possible without tearing it up?  Should I try hear?  The rifle is a .308 if it matters.

some FSB pins are more of a PITA than others. Tried hitting it from the other side? You could always throw it in the oven for about 30 minutes or so and see if that helps. I'd be hesitant to use a heat gun for fear of mussing up the finish.

Yeah, I really don't want to hurt the gun, it's got a really nice factory finish which is odd in my experience with AK variants, but maybe not with the VEPR's?  This is my first VEPR.  I did try both sides, but I didn't hammer on it very hard in fear of bending or breaking anything.  Maybe I just need to stop being so scared and give it a good hard whack?

Reason for removal is I just got a MI 30mm scope mount and put a Weaver Super Slam Dangerous Game 1-5x30 scope on it.  In 1x power the FSB is very intrusive in the scope vision.  Once you start to turn up the power, it becomes less visible but creates a slight blur in my sight picture.  I was hoping to just take it off and store it in case I ever put it back on.
