I'd been on the fence whether or not to get an AK to round out my growing collection of Russian rifles and was emailing back & forth with Atlantic Firearms to see if they were ever going to get more of their "Tula AK-47" rifles in. If I was going to get an AK I wanted it to be of decent quality and have some kind of bona fide historic Soviet connection. They said they'd be getting a very small number within another week or two. The day after the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook one of Atlantic's sales reps emailed to say they had two of them in. Total no brainer - I immediately ordered it and went around to some other sites and got a mix of Egyptian and Eastern Euro surplus mags before prices started to skyrocket. The rifle came a few days ago (the mags are in transit now). Weather has been too cruddy to do photos outdoors, so here's a quick indoor pic - the flash and crummy fluorescent lighting do it very little justice :

Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but I really like the fit and finish. It's teflon on top of a parked finish & seems pretty durable with an even coloring. Plus it's nice to have some original Russian parts in the gun, including a Tula stamped trunion, Tula bolt, carrier, dust cover, and gas tube. SNs on the bolt, carrier, and dust cover match - other than that she's a mutt. Receiver is NDS, the barrel is new & chrome lined, and the trigger is a Tapco G2. The barrel is threaded and has an old school slant brake. The furniture looks like it might be Russian though I'm not sure. Still very new to the AK game.

It's my first actual new gun - everything else I own is either milsurp or some other C&R. Even with shipping, tax, and transfer it was a very reasonable price - Atlantic honored their pre-panic pricing (roughly half of what I'd probably end up paying for something comparable right now) and they still included a magazine, Russian sling, and hard case. I feel like someone who had to jump from the dock to catch the boat as it set sail but at least I got aboard. Just glad I was already storing up x39 for my SKS....
