Damn that is a lllooonnngggg shot :-)
I just took some Extra out in my PU Sniper at a 100yrd. I got a 1.25" five shot group. Here's the thread: http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?270765-Russian-Mfg-7-62-x-54R-Match-Target&p=2400850#post2400850 200g Extra is really good ammo, and as I understand it the ammo is designed for 300 and 600 meter competitions.... and I've read from at least one source that accuracy is optimized for that range. I'd expect that this means that accuracy beyond 600m (and shorter than 300m) may not be optimal with this load. That's a heavy bullet to be using in an SVD. Do you have an adjustable gas block? Also it's not clear from your photos, but what are you calling a 'group'? Three shots or 5 shots? I can get 3 shots into a 'quarter-sized' group pretty commonly at 100yrds. I can't do that with 5 shots. I'm going out again on Friday to try again, this time at 300yrd and with my barrel 'wrapped' at the forward handguard retainer. I'm hoping I can turn in an honest 1MOA 5 shot group at 300yrd. Thanks for that dope, that will help me if I ever get a chance to shoot this thing at 600yrd. -Thirtycal |

Thanks for taking the time to post this, it's nice to see what the Tigr is capable of. It's been a while since I have fired at long range targets with my M14 SSR and M118LR ammo. I wasn't shooting for groups, had to get minimum target hits out to 1,000 yards to pass the course at Ft. Benning.
A 12.5 to 20.5 group at 800 yards is some good shooting, definitely torso hits as the width of a average mans shoulder is 19 inches. What's the power of the optic and wind value? I'm sure the difference between M118LR and 54r is nil when it comes to the effects of wind. I don't get too obsessed with accuracy and from what I have read, the Tigr looks promising for long range shooting. Just one more year until I have the funds together for a Tigr! |
