Thanks |

What kind of folder are you wanting?
The Beryl and wire folders are direct drop ins. There are also after market options, the Bonesteel folder is a drop in and Ace makes a folder that just requires removal of the tang. If you are wanting a triangle or poly folder they are more expensive and you will need to send your rifle to a knowledgeable smith to do the work. You can get the triangle folder from AK-Builder for $175 and polymer folder for $235. The labor can cost anywhere from $75 to $200, depends on who does it. |

The polymer is more correct for the modern AK-103 Russia uses, the triangle was found on the older AKS-74's (AKM's never had triangle folders, just underfolders [AKMS]). Good info, I like the looks of the triangle better but would wanna keep it correct. Can it be done right? and not butcher my rifle??? recommend a smith? |

Are you sure you want a folder? Are you jumping out of a plane? Smashed inside an armored carrier? Cause in every practical civi shooting way a folder is less stable and comfy.... Just a thought.... I aint jumping outta nothing...But I'm pretty sure I know what I want??? This aint my first rodeo...just my first Russian Rodeo. |

It can be done right so long as you send it to the right people. In Range, Krebs, Rifle Dynamics, AK USA all seem to be the popular ones. Expect turnaround times to be somewhat long though. |

Yeah any smith that actually knows how to do the install correctly can do it just as good as the factory can. I had a triangle folder installed on my SGL21 and it looks just as good as the factory job on my SLR106. I got it done by a guy over on AK Files. He installed the folder and a reinforcement plate for $100 with a ~5 week turn around time. Shoot me a PM if you want his info. |

What about the SGL 21-84 (Triangle folder) was there ever such an animal? The original triangle sidefolders used on AKS-74's and AKSU's used a 4.5mm hinge pin and had the back of the receiver cut at a 6 degree angle. When Russia changed over to the 74M or 100 series rifles (polymer stock) they used a 5.5mm hinge pin and used a 4 degree cut. The triangle stock on the SGLXX-84's are a commercial piece used to replace the polymer stock. They're just as rugged, they're just nothing that Russia ever issued on any of their modern AK's to my knowledge. It's worth noting that the Bulgarians copied the early 74 design with the 4.5mm hinge pin, and never upgraded to the 5.5mm. That's why you'll see SLR's with the triangle folding stocks rather than a 4.5mm hinged polymer stock. |

Chris butler at AK-USA http://www.ak-103.com/ You might find some places who do it cheaper, but Chris will do it best. He's very knowledgeable with the Russian guns and takes no shortcuts. |
