Was leaning towards getting either one of the CAI saiga conversions or a VEPR.
The CAIs went up in price, but the VEPRs are still $499 or so. Out of all the AKs out there, I've been told many times that the VEPRs are by far the best AK out there due to the receiver quality (and thickness). However I'm also aware that they do not take normal AK mags as well as normal AK stocks. So, my question is - How could I go about getting one to accept normal AK mags, a folding stock and replacing the rest of the wood with plastic. |
| Not hard at all if you have the correct tools. I did mine in about half an hour. You need a drill press and a vice to hold the rifle, and CSS sells the round trunnion bullet guides in kits with the correct drill bit and tap. It's one of the easier gunsmithing jobs you can do. And with stupid prices people are paying for 10/63's these days, Veprs are hands down the best rifle for the money. |

This is what I'm considering : http://centerfiresystems.com/AKAGUN-VEPR-16IS.aspx
Is there anything I need to be aware of? Worst case scenario is I don't install the stock & bullet guide in the near future and end up with a 10rd mag fed , extremely accurate AK pattern rifle. Few more questions : #1 - Do I have to abide by 922 compliance after I start doing work? #2 Can I add a sight to this or does it need a rail? #3 - Does it take normal AK front handguards? |
