I have a Saiga 7.62 that's basically stock. It's very accurate, reliable and works with all my mags so I don't see changing much.

But I want to add a flash suppressor, and the end of the barrel doesn't support threaded devices.

What's the best way to handle this? Does the bushing at the end of the barrel come off, and does it require the sight post to be removed too? It looks like they're keyed together on the bottom of the barrel. Is this more trouble than it's worth?

Thanks for any ideas or info!

Here's a tutorial:  Saiga 7.62x39 barrel threading.  Not shown in the video is him removing the collar at the muzzle with a dremel.  You only need to remove enough of the collar to get the barrel threaded.

You can also replace the front sight base with one for an AK74, but you'll have to be able to pin it correctly.  I would send it to a qualified AK gunsmith for that.

No affiliation with the seller but here is everything you need. I can almost promise you that you wont find  a die or die handle big enough or the alignment tool at Lowes or Home Depot ask me how I know lol.

even though he is having a problem geting it back... premtivestrike (spell check any one??) is loaning a full pair to anyone who pays shipping... you can also ship it to the next guy straight from you and he pays shipping.. so for like 25$ you can be set until the next time...
look on the main ak discussion under the stick "pay it forward" just be careful with them or you buy it!!!
good luck

A lot of the newer 7.62x39 Saigas are already threaded 14x1LH underneath the muzzle shroud. Get a $10 tubing cutter from Lowe's and have at it.

Easy as cake, other than the fact that my pipe cutter was not up to the task. But I've got plenty of other cutting tools, so it's not a big deal.

The parts arrived today, and here's the finished product:

Thanks!

a high percentage of saigas now have 14x1 L threading under the shroud.  Mine did, and I used a Tapco 14x1 L M16 flash hider on it.  Eliminated virtually all the flash in low light.  I later replaced the FSB with a 24mm one and added an AK103 brake.

Looks good! I found my pipe cutter wouldnt hack it either and ended up using a small hacksaw to get it done lol
