I was looking at my fired casings from my Saiga and noticed there's a ridge on the spent cartridges. This is 7.62x39 Golden Tiger and it's been functioning flawlessly 300 rounds so far. Just curious if this is normal for fired casings.

Ok well it looks like saiga's are made with a step in the chamber so Russian Police know if a gun used in a crime is a civilian saiga or military ak.

The Saiga I used to have didn't do that?

Mine 762x39 does the same thing. I haven't had any problems yet. I figured I just shoot it until it blows up.

Normal...All new Saiga 7.63x39 do this. Russian law enforcement wanted to tell if the round was fired from a civilian or military weapon....

Looks like you got one of those 'special Russian police issue' Saiga's.

Can you still reload the case if you used brass if it does that?

I'd have it checked by a gunsmith just to be safe

My manual that came with my new one said it is normal and the case can be reloaded.

When did they start doing this?

Is it only on the 7.62X39 guns or did  they modify the others as well?  I can't see them selling too many of the others over there.

No need too.

But... if you have one you can bring yours gunsmith to have it checked out. He might even charge you to tell you its fine

There are plenty gunsmiths on this board and certified Armorers for all weapons platforms.

WTF? No, not likely. I would like to see some documentation of this. None of our new Saigas from RAA or Arsenal that we have check during the conversions have this "feature". I will go check the rest, but this cuts directly into the case shoulders. That affects pressure. I have seen this on other guns with the chamber cut improperly.

Can someone show me some documentation of this police and gang stuff?
