Suppose I bought a Saiga and wanted to do the conversion. I have some questions: 1. Is the gas tube assembly interchangeable with a standard gas tube so I could put a regular cover on there? 2. I see some folks used what looks like a bolt-on lower retainer. Where did they get that from? Does anyone have a close-up pic of this on their rifle that I could see? 3. If I removed the gas block, would I be able to use a regular lower retainer? 4. I have a seen a few guns where the Saiga FSA was replaced with an AK-74 type. Is this a straight conversion? 5. Where did they get the -74 style FSA? 6. Does anyone make a -74 style muzzle brake in 7.62 that threads onto a -74 FSA? |

A lot of your more technical questions have already been answered at www.saiga12.com Basically, anything involving the gas tube, gas block, barrel, or the gun forward of the front trunion is complicated. It can all be done, it's a matter of how much $ and time you want to sink into it. |

Tapco makes a Galil style hand guard that uses a clamp on hand guard retainer. To replace any of the saiga parts with mil spec you will need a 10 ton press and the proper support blocks the parts press on and off just like on the regular AK and parts for the most part are interchangeable. Just measure the diameters and make sure all is the same. |

The gas tube's are interchangeable on the 7.62x39 Saiga's, but the Saiga gas tube doesn't have the retainers for the upper HG's. You can use any stamped receiver gas tube without much trouble though. Dinzag sells a really cool lower HG retainer that comes in two pieces. Held together by a couple allen screws and fits tight, effectively you can use any stamped receiver lower HG too. On the 74 brake, either you'll have to press your FSB off or dremel the front part of the shroud off in front of the sight post, then thread the exposed barrel for the 74 brake. Dinzag has the brake and the rental threading kit. I've started to dremel mine, but it's a PITA, though maybe I just need a different kind of cutting wheel. I'm not really recommending it at this point ![]() I ordered all my parts and parts for my friends conversions from Dinzag, he's a great guy to do business with. He'll have what you need, I think he's the best Saiga do it yourselfer out there hands down. dinzagarms.com/saiga_762x39/saiga_762x39.html Z |
