What do you guys think of this concept I photoshopped? The ultimate versitile 20" Saiga!!  (maybe not)

It's a 20" Saiga 7.62x39
Ultimak front end
Russian or other scope
Russian Stock
Harris or other bipod
US AK 74 muzzle break
US piston, FCG, mags

I like the idea of being able to attach or detach the following:

Side mount scope
bipod
scout scope/red dot
side mount sling swivel
front grip
light/laser

I'd start with a Saiga 308 not the 7.62x39, and I'd use a vortex flash hider I think, and I'd want a bipod with legs no longer than the bottom of either the magazine I intended to use or the pistol grip, whichever is longer, as you want to be as close to the ground as possible. Poor mans SVD.

I'd love to start with a 308, but I already have the 7.62x39. I'll definately heed your advice about the bipod, but unfortunately I can't add a flash hider. I can only add a break and it has to be pinned on or threaded and tack welded, which I'll do myself.

I'll probably do the ultimak down the road a little, it's a few bucks. The more I look at my options and what I need to buy to change out the handguards, the more it makes sense because of the added options and capabilities.

I don't want to press everything off, and I don't think I want the Tapco Galil. It's OK, but doesn't leave much room for your hand when a bipod is on. A quality bolt on retainer, gas tube, and hand guards adds up to a minimum of about $150-175 with shipping, and I won't have what I want.

I don't see what the UltiMak is doing there.  You already have the scope mounted on the side rail.  Also, what do you need the railed forend for?  You could mount the bipod directly to the factory forend.

Good point, it's not like you are gonna hang a light on it and clear rooms with a 20" rifle.

I kind of think that the factory stock is cheesy and ugly.

I figured the ultimak would be a very stable platform for a bipod, or a front grip. You see M14's and other 20" guns with scout scopes all the time. This is going to be used at the range guys, not for clearing rooms...I hope.

I definately think a side mount sling attachment is way better than bottom mount.

That said, I appreciate the input and I'm just trying to get ideas before I do anything. I only want to mod it once, if thats possible.
