The new WASR I had ordered was shipped today.  The seller described it as a
Romanian AK-47 Cugir.  Does that mean anything?

Also, the seller told me it had a threaded muzzle with a tack welded muzzle cap.  Can I assume it is threaded  14 x 1 LH?

Thanks for your time.

Okay, I now know Cugir was the city it was manufactured in.  Any relevance to that or is it lik saying GM is in Detroit?

no relevance at all.

and yes it should be 14 x 1 LH threads, if its tack welded you will probably need a dremel.

Thanks FAK!  I appreciate it.

If I take the thread cover off, replace it with a US made Kurts Kustom compensator and silver solder it, I should be good to go, right?

No, you don't have to solder the new one onto the muzzle, unless you live in a state that has a ban on weapons with threaded muzzles. Just cut the weld spot and replace with whatever kind of muzzle brake you prefer.

Thanks.  I live in Florida, a very warm and gun friendly state!

there should be a spring loaded pin that you push in as you un screw the nut. also remember its reverse threads when you are taking it off.

Noted on the LH threads.  On the new compensator, should I cut or drill a detent for the spring loaded pin you described on the FSB?  Is Loctite enough to keep it from backing off over time?

Thanks!\

If you get a compensator with the indent already there it's just a matter of holding the pin down and screwing it in until the pin catches. I have a WASR and ordered a 74-type brake for it from Cope's, I think it was like $15 bucks. Just use caution when grinding off the weld, I used one of the small cutting wheels that came with my dremel.

The Toys of Summer

Now that my WASR is here,  I strpped the wood furniture of to refinish it.

Top- Rock River Arms AR-15 with 20" HBAR, 1/9 twist.  6x fixed power scope.  Green laser.  Assembled from parts for ~$600.00

Middle-  WASR 10 AK varient.  Wood furniture being refinished,  In the meantime it sports a TAPCO adjustable stock and Quadrail forearn. ERGO grip. 20 round Hungarian steel magazines that are built like tanks. Optics by A-1; 50mm red dot.  Tapco G2 trigger.  Assembled and modified for hi-cap magazines for ~$425.00.  Base rifle was ~$300.

Bottom- Mossberg 802. 10 round, bolt action.  22LR.  4x fixed power scope.  It's the kid's training rifle when they go to the range with Daddy.
