I know that there are a few threads already about malfuncitons with wasr 2's but none of them answered my question.  I just bought a wasr 2 from AIM.  I took it out today and shot it.  Turns out its a single shot rifle.  The bolt does not cycle.  I used both mags that came with it, the metal one and the plastic one, both with the same result.

I had to pull the bolt back manually for every shot.  It didn't move at all, not even to eject the empty case.  I am using Russian surplus 5.45 from Wideners.  I noticed that the gas tube does not fit so good.  There is a slight gap where the tube meets the gas block.  Could this be the problem?  Is there anywhere I can buy a gas tube for a wasr 2 to see if it will work with a different tube?

Thanks for any help,

Nic

More likely a clogged gas port.

try these guys: K-var Gas Tubes
If that doesn't work, something is catastrophically wrong and you should have it exchanged for a new one

will a bulgarian gas tube fit on a romy?

Also where is the gas port and how would I unclog it?

the gas port is in the gas block, (the part where the gas tube does a 45 degree angle to the barrel) just spray some oil or lube or whatever you clean with in it, (gas block not the tube) and you should see the oil coming out of the barrel. then use the gas port cleaning tool in your cleaning kit and feel around for the hole and then do what God made you to do and stick it in. dont force it in if it doesnt go real easily, this might be your problem.

Also make sure you chamber is clean. Maybe run a bore brush and chamber brush in there with some good solvent. Do this after you clean the gas block as mentioned above.

Is the bolt hard to pull back after firing that one round? If so, then its a bad gas system due to my sks experience. my sks has a little leak and doesnt eject cases sometimes. make sure the gas block and gas tube has no leaks, or else gun will malfunction, its ok for the bleed holes to be there. what type of ammo you shooting? test the gas port using a nail to see if its clogged. you can buy gas tubes almost everywhere. some gas tubes were made too short or out of spec.

send it back, you only have 30 days to do so after purchasing from them.  If you change anything on the rifle (fix it yourself) you will void the return policy.

I think I will have to send it back.  I cleaned the gas port very well.  And now the bolt will cycle but only half the time and it never ejects a spent case.  Who should I send it back to, I bought it from AIM should I send it to them or should I sent it to Century?

Thanks for all the help,

Nic

I had a sar3 that did that. The Hammer was catching the bolt aggressively when charging it back. I confirmed this by taking off the cover and slowly charging back the bolt. I found that the Hammer was heavily dragging against the bolt. I polished down the hammer a little and Presto no more problem.
