So I have a WASR-10 that has a thumb hole stock on it and it is counted as a huge disadvantage to owning this AK-47? Heck I like the way it feels... I have been reading some posts in the AK Discussion forums and I guess this rifle is suppost to fall apart the quickest, be the ugliest, be the poorest quality, and etc.... Romanians are to AK-47s what Olyimpic Arms are to AR-15s in here? Haha, I have an Oly AR-15 also. Wow I pick some junk huh? Bottom of the pit stuff. I traded a .303 Enfield($109), old sks($50) (with no cleaning rod, or bayonet) and $150 to boot. Basically $300 for an AK that has only had 100 rounds fired through it, it does take doube stack mags, shoots very well and there are no paper trails coming back to me......... Overall I consider it about an even trade, but the "no paper trails coming back to me" part is worth an extra $50 on about anything firearm related these days. I own very few firearms on paper. Yes, I guess, thumb hole stocks are a huge disadvantage but dang, I like the way that short stock fits into my shoulder?? I guess it just isn't mean looking enough to cut it any where other than in the Romanian Forum, but looks don't kill functionability does and this junky little thing functions quiet well. And Um psssst... The Oly AR I have....... you can't prove I have it either |
I agree, it amazes me how many people like to trash other people's stuff on this site... I knew what I was buying when I got this rifle. A thing I learned a long time on the ol' information highway...... I'd say 60+% (or more) of the people using the net have absouletly ZERO hands on knowledge of what they are 'typing' about. They read alot, but don't have any realy experience. I'd bet most people typing the most don't shoot their rifles more than 2 or 3 times a year?! Any takers? haha |

It goes "BANG" with each pull of the trigger. It hits the side of a barn. It's not a tack-driver, but was never meant to be. It ain't an AR either. She may be ugly, but she's mine! The Romy quality is purty durn good. There are fewer machining marks on mine than on my Yugo SKS or my Hungarian AK. Ya pay for purty... in guns (and women, but they are another story). buckmeister |
Must use context. The latter statement was a movement beyond reliability into accuracy. AR's are inherently more accurate than AK's. Conversely, AK's reliability reigns over that of the AR. I have never had the hammer fall on a live round and it not go "boom"... in either an AR or AK. I have had FTE using less than ideal ammo (translation:cheap); which was my AR (so I see your point). There is entirely too much snobbery associated with these two fine weapons. Both have their niche. My SHTF weapon depends on the scenario... the end of civilization as we know it: the AK. Civil unrest: the AR. Meat on the table: an AR in 6.8. Before I use either... I'll use my vote (a hint to all gun owners to get out and vote). "Well you should see Polythene Pam. She's so good-looking but she looks like a man... Get a dose of her in jackboots and kilt... Yes you could say she was attractively built." (now that takes me back to my youth). Ain't nuthin purty-er then-uh female holdin' a wrench... ur a gun! (Yeee-Haw) buckmeister |

Nothing wrong with Romanians, if there is a problem with them, almost always easy to fix. Buy what you can afford and what you like and forget about what others think. I remember a time when all the Chines AK's were thought to be some of the worse junk out there. Now most think of them as some of the best. |
Hey that looks like my PSL minus optics after my wife ran it through the wash on shrink cycle!

The first gun I bought when I was 18 was a romanian, 23 now and it is still keeping my collection of AR's and M14's safe at night. I got it a new friend today when I picked up a Yugo underfolder. To bad it will be several months before I can shoot it. My romanian is still as solid and reliable as the day I bought it. It out lasted the car I drove back then. I have come across guys at the range with their Ak's tricked with rails, eotechs, and gangster grips. Their Arsenal AK was pricey before they put the extras on. Now they have an AK that is damn near 2 grand. They do look cool though. In my opinion putting that much into an AK is contrary to the purpose of this combat proven weapon. Youre romy aint pretty but you know she will never leave ya. |
I agree, my SARs shoot as well and as reliable as my Hungarian pre-ban. Romanian AK reputations seem to suffer from some of the work Century did to them which (if truly a problem) are usually easy to fix. |
| The only thing I HATE about thumbhole stocks is that Gubberment over-regulation and anti-freedom zealots FORCED this feature on many consumers. I own a Beretta Storm and I find the thumbhole stock provides solid mounting & control and keeps the P-grip from snagging on clothing when quickly shouldered from a slung position. |
Century is the biggest problem Romanians have. I bought a Hi cap WASR. I had the front sight block straightened up, Gun Coated it, threaded the barrel and put a folder on it. It doesn't have "dimples" but it's the rifle I carry in my truck. Dependable, accurate to P.O.M., light and compact. I don't worry about scratches and crap I'd worry about with my Yugo and Chinese, God forbid my AR. Nothing wrong with Romanians, just what Century does to them. Put a Romy folder on it. You'll love it.

For what it's worth...Back in late 1990''s I bought two Romaks in 5.45X39 and have to really say they are the two of the most accurate rifles I own. I bought them from CDNN for $289.95 each. Just after I purchased the two rifles I began to hear all kind of bad things concerning Romanian AK's. ( I'm sure you know the drill ). I mean we're talking days after I bought them. I have to admit my stomach sort of rolled over on that information. But as the next few weeks bore out, the scuttle butt turned out to be bull. After initially sighting in I was shooting groups one inch and under at 100 meters on the back 40 using iron sights. I was and still am amazed at the accuracy of these two weapons. Granted they aren't pretty BUT they function as working rifle's. I would not be ashamed to carry either of my Romaks into battle should the need ever arise. Also consider this: Go look at the threads on the Arsenal SLR-106 F-FR's. They cost anywhere from $850 to near a $1000. My Romak's have some machining marks on them and are not really pretty per say but they don't shoot 5-6 inch's to the left, the sights are straight, there are no FTF-FTE, the mags go in and out no problem, ( BTW I only use East German bakelight mags ), and there's no paint running off my Rommie's, etc. AND I bought two rifle's for just about the cost of one Arsenal 106 serie's rifle. Nuff said? |

My little WASR 10 has been doing excellent. I was reading on other sites where the WASR 10's feed hollow points poorly. Well I though oh crap, cause I have 500 rounds of hollow points.....I had only shot Fmj's through it and after reading this I got out the hollow points and............Fed like a charm. I have done a little dremel touch up on the mag well, 100% easier to get the magazines in and out, and I also polished the carrier bolt where it is completely shiny sliver now. This little rifle is fun......... Still Kickin around putting a red dot on it?? Don't know for sure though, it does have the side rail to mount a mount to, or would a reciever mount be best. Happy

| I got my WASR-10 a few months ago. I have only shot at 50 yards and closer and at 50, it is minute of torso standing with rapid fire. Only jam I ever had was with a shitty magazine and I have shot about 300-400 rounds through it. Not the best finish on them, but it makes a good project gun. Im currently looking into some way to refinish the metal on the rifle, I bought a stock form a fellow arfcommer. |

My two cents, but I like my Romanian WASR. The mags are cheap and easy to get and it fires Wolf and the PS bullet surplus really well. Mine came with a TAPCO trigger and in 5.45x39, the accuracy is good, the recoil is very light nad the trigger won't sting your finger. Some people call it junk, and it may be, but it is fun and cheap to shoot. It's reliable also. You know, the surplus 5.45x39 that is out there right now is really good. If I didn't already have a 5.45x39, I would buy a WASR just to shoot that caliber. |
