I am on the same boat with you, i am also looking for a replacment brake for my century....i took all the finish off of it trying to remove it. After my research i think the US treads are 1/2X20.... I email Century already, i will keep u updated once i get their reply. Please keep me updated if you find a source for those US thread brakes. PS...my brake is still on my rifle! How did you remove your brake? any hints? I might just have to cut it a bit to get it to turn.... thanks man |

If I find any I'll let you know. As for getting it off two large guys, a propane torch, and a big pipe wrench will take it off. ETA. Just enough heat that you woudn't want to touch it, it dont need to be glowing or anything near that hot. |

The first GB WASR I bought was a sidefolder, it had the break on tight, and not all the way down cause the barrel dia. is larger just in front of the F.S.B. (they didn't take the base off before threading it. I took off thr break with a small pipe-wrench, it came off muddy feeling but not too hard. I buggered the finish as well, so I chased the threads with a 1/2 20 RH die, turned the outside of the break to clean up the marring, collared the inside rear of the break to fit over the larger portion of the barrel, and tapped the threads as far as I could in the break with a bottoming tap. Now the break fits flush with the F.S.B., and you can turn the break on and off freely as it should by hand. The second rifle I bought had much less distance between the back of the break and the front of the sight base, and came off properly, had clean threads, and was countersunk at the rear of the break to fit over the barrel ( but there weren't enough threads in the break to turn it all the way down) so I still had to put a bottoming tap to her to fit it flush, but it was minor work compared to what I had to do to the folder. Century informed me that they will not be selling breaks seperately in the near future, so ou can get a 1/2 20 bolt , grind off the head (if you don't have a lathe, if you do leave it as is), thread the thing on the break and spin it (you can use a drill and a vise, secure the drill in the vise and lock it on, and use emery paper strips on it as it turns, this will clean up the surface and keep ot neat and cocentric. You can also make or have made for you adapters for B.F.A.s and other muzzle attatchments, by boring, sleeving the attatchment and then threading the sleevw to 1/2 20 Hope this helped |
