Gents

I am thinking of having Derek at Az Arms to do my WASR10 over as an underfolder.  Since it is paid for and I like it, I figured I will have him do the following:

1.  Add the slant brake
2.  Add bayo lug
3.  Convert it to an underfolder
4.  Refinish the rifle.

I figured with the wait time for the Vectors plus they seem to be using Rommy kits why not pay a few dollars on refinishing my WASR10?

He wants 400 for the job.

What do you guys think and do you anyone else that can do this type of work?  I really do want an underfolder but 600 plus dollars for one when I already have the underfolder stock, the WASR10 and it is already paid for.

LMK what yall think

Thanks
Max

Get a Yugo under kit since the stock goes for about $90, roll the dice on another $60 (150 for kit) and see if the bbl is good or otherwise easily cleaned up. If not, $100 gets a mint Romy kit the next week. You can get another gun built for close to the cost of a do-over.

If you get the brake and lug with the kit, that pretty much pays for a new receiver.

I think putting that kind of money into a WASR probably defeats the purpose of getting a cheap beater like a WASR.  I would start over with another kit and keep the WASR around to beat.

+1. That's how I got it figured too.

I thought about jacking up my post-ban WASR just like you, but my gunsmith talked me out of it.

I stopped with refinishing the wood and adding a G2 for the slap. I feel pretty good about stopping right there and not adding all the other stuff.

I want a Vector too, but I figure I could wait it out rather than do all this.

It is your money, do as you please.  Derek at AZEX does good work and his finishing is top notch.  I dad a similar project on a CETME, had Derek tune the trigger, fit a quieter brake, clean-up and refinish the wood stocks and refinish it OD green Parkote.   It came out nice, but I put $600 into a $400 rifle.   Worst thing about the CETME is the fagile cast fire control parts put in by Century Arms to make it semi-auto.

CETME and WASR

That would be TWO Century rifles not worth spending money on........
Of course I own BOTH and have spent money on each.....

A WASR was my first AK.  I refinished the stock, did the trigger slap fix and threaded the barrel and added a  slant brake.  If I had it to do all over again, I'd have put on a cheap Romanian folding stock and tossed the gun in the box in my Jeep and called it good.  It's a good rifle, but not worth putting money into it.  Save that for a more valuable kit and keep the WASR for you beat around gun.

Hell, a Vector underfolder isn't much more than $400.  I would just do that, then you have two AKs.  One WASR and a really nice Vector underfolder.

My Vector underfolder only cost me $495 at Shooters Pawn here at Bragg.

I sold my WASR to put the Vector on layaway.

Now If I only had the $175 to get it out of layaway. Maybe next month

I would just save an extra $100 and get the Vector, Even if you add the underfolder it wont look as good as the Vector IMO.
