You will also want to replace the hammer with one from Red Star Arms www.redstararms.com/index.htm?catalog.htm&1 The stock hammer does not line up correctly and can peen the back of the bolt and the firing pin over time. |
With the Wieger mags & the hammer switch the 3 is a sweet shooter. I've got 3 of them & wouldn't part with them. They have gotten scarce, so prices are all over the scale. Keep an eye on the EE, I see them pop up from time to time. Good luck, hope you find a good one.

Yep . .. check the front sight base and the gas block to make sure they are straight (RS 39 helped me pick out mine when I was a newbie to AKs  )Install a Red Star hammer and get a bunch of WEIGER mags. I've tried a few other mags but only WEIGER mags run 110%. If you can find one you'll be VERY happy !  When I take my SAR-3 to the local range it seems that everyone wants to give it a run . . . One of my favorite AKs ! !
