I got the tapco folding stock, front handguard and pistol grip the other day.. i installed it that night and was happy with the appearance of it. the folding mechanism did look sorta delicate but it worked fine. the very next day i went up to test er out.. after putting a few clips through it with the stock back i folded it in and started shootin from the hip and on the first clip the stock broke off and flew behind me. it broke right at the base pretty much right under where it latches. the stock half still had the pin in it and the latch was still connected to it. and the base is just a broke off nub.

basically i just wanted to rant... it pisses me off when stuff breaks the first time you use it. I emailed tapco and they said theyll replace it when I send the broke one to them along with $8.95 for return shipping of the new part. so its gona cost me $5 to ship it there plus $9 to ship it back...hopefully they use overnight air for that much... hope they dont mind i JB welded the sh!t back together hahaha...i think its stonger than ever... when i get the new one its going to ebay and i think ima get the AR stock and adapater..

anyway...sorry for the long first post... heres a pic after installation when i was happiest with the product.

I highly recommend the Romanian side folder.  It is surprisingly compfortable and gives a great cheek weld.

Just one question, do you think the charging handle hit the buttstock when it was folded?  It looks awfully close.

good call. i bet that is exactly what happend... i noticed when folded the stock had a little play in every direction. i have a pic of me shooting it with the stock folded and it definitley looks possible for the handle to hit the stock when folded. thanks for the response.

edit: i looked at the stock and when its folded in ...there is a fat nick/gouge from the charging handle right in the top left... i guess you have to be holding the stock when its folded to keep it from raising into the path of the handle.....great design tapco

They obvously test their own stuff....right??? Freakin Tapco!!!

Go with the steel Romanian folder. They shipped those things all over Europe to people that REALLY USE an AK in combat. 100,000 Yugoslavians in a homemade-convertable 3-speed Yugo can't be wrong...

The Romanian folder allows easy access to the selector lever, the trigger area, and allows the charging handle to fully cycle.  It's almost like the Romanians sat down with a pencil and paper and thought this thing out!!!

And it's made of 100% metal as opposed to 98% plastic.
