Thinking of getting a AK (sar1) is this a good one if not , what is a good ak to get?

Its a great start.  Everything an AK should be.  It will work fine out of the box, but there are a few easy tweaks to make it even better.  Best value for the money.

My first of 4 AKs, and still heavily used. If you can handpick one for under $350 out the door, get one with straight sights/gas block/parallel side rail/no major hitches in the action. QC has improved a lot since 1999, but I still suggest sorting them out then getting the one that speaks to you. The US parts count triggers all vary in feel but are easy to tweak or replace for $40-70.
Best first AK IMO.

Fine guns, and more likely to avg 3" groups than 4" groups. But you will spend hundreds more on the gun, then worry about scratches and dings. Some bitch about the extra pound or so in those 2 guns, others like the way the mass smoothes out the shots.
