hello i am new here, but i am going to buy an AK soon and have done a lot of reading and deceided on a Romanian SAR1 , my question is how do i know i am getting an SAR1 and not something else?
Look above the magazine and a little left on the scope rail side of the rifle. You will see SAR-1 engraved on the receiver along with 7.62 x 39 underneath of that. Also directly above the magazine you will see the tell tale "dimples" in the receiver. It's not an SAR-1 if it doesn't have the "dimples". I was just at a gun show this weekend and they were trying to pass off WASR-10's as SAR-1's. And even worse they were getting $400 for them. Also be sure to find and SAR with a straight FSB and gas block.
In addition to the Dimples in the mag well area, the SAR-1 will also be engraved/stamped SAR-1 on the left side of the receiver just below the front Trunion Rivets. In other words if it does not say SAR-1 and thesides of the receiver do not have the dimples then it ain't an SAR1. Hope this helps. Interestingly at last weekends show I did see WASR10s that had been converted to high caps, and they were marked WASR. Some dealers are honest. These can be a good value if the conversion was done well. Truth in advertising however goes alot into my buying decisions.

it's hard to go wrong with aimsurplus. theor customer relations are among the best in the industry. when ordering, simply state that you would appreciate it if they hand selected your rifle for straight sights prior to shipping. all other sar issues are easily and inexspensively addressed or upgraded as you go. good luck! |
Does AIM charge extra to hand pick Sar's with straight front sights? I have been looking for the best place to order myself. I plan on buying three SAR-1's. I want to find the best company to order from since I have heard horror stories about some companies and their shipping times. Thanks.....
