Anybody know anything about them?  Are they good?  Are there any problems with them?  I know very little about AKs and am thinking about getting one.  I know it's a post ban.  School me please.

Do you know which ROMAK you are looking at?

ROMAK-1 - 7.62x39

ROMAK-2 - 5.45.39

ROMAK-3 - 7.62x54R

ROMAK-991 - 7.62x39

Those are different AK's from what you might consider "typical". They use a proprietary magazine that only holds 10 rounds. Standard AK magazines don't fit in these. Nothing wrong with that, it just keeps you from using standard capacity 20 or 30 rounders, and prices for these Romanian rifles are lower because of that.

Do a search for "wasr 10" on gunbroker to find the double stack equivalent of the one above.

But you can mod it anyway you want...even open up to accept high cap mags...
I have shot 1000's of rounds thru the AK and have not had one bit of problem with it.
Most all of it is WOLF steel case Rusian surplus.

Can you put a standard stock on one and get rid of that pathetic thumbhole monstrosity.

I wouldn't think the thumbhole was a US part. It might be an even swap

IIRC you would still have to worry about compliance because you are modifying it out of its "sporter" configuration.

I agree.  By modifying it to take hi-cap mags you are, in effect, manufacturing an assault weapon which is prohibited unless you insure no more than 10 of the 20 named parts are of foreign manufacture.  You can meet this requirement by using a US made fire control group, US made stock and handguards, and a US made magazine––the US mag will but you well over the requirement since it has 3 US parts when you only need 1.  It also means that only US made mags can be used.  If you want foreign mag usage, either install a US made piston, or swap followers between a US mag and an imported mag, then you can legally use both.
