I am new to the gun world and was wondering if anyone can help me out. I just purchased a WASR 10/63. The gun shop said it was a preban gun and came with a 30 round magazine. I live on Long Island in NY and I know that the laws here are tricky. Is this really a preban gun? What happens if I take it to the range and its not? There is a year on the receiver above the magazine that says 1968, does that mean anything? I have been reading things on different forums, it sounds like they don't make a preban WASR from what I have read. Is there anyone from Long Island out there that shoots at Calverton? Will they break my chops there if I go with the gun. Thanks in advance for any help.

WASRs aren't pre ban rifles. I'm not familiar with the NY laws but I believe you'd have to remove the bayonet lug and have the muzzle device welded (if it has one) for it to be legal there. You could probably post this question in your hometown forum to get somebody more familiar with NY laws.

ETA the date on the trunnion of 1968 is the date the original rifle was built. WASRs are assembled from demilled military rifles. Yours was built in 1968. Later it was cut up and certain parts were reused along with some new parts to make your rifle.
