I'm sorry I don't know anything on this subject to start. I made the mistake of putting my receiver in a vice too tight while changing stocks and it seems I've damaged rivets 4, 5, and 6 in this diagram.

I don't know if this is a stupid question or not but, is it possible for a gunsmith to replace the rivets? As far as I can tell they just looked chipped or cracked kind of but, I'd liked them replaced anyway even if they aren't fubar. Advice please.

Dont put it in a vice to do anything.

In order to replace the rivets, the barrel has to be pressed or hammered out after you strip the receiver and take out the barrel pin.

Then you would have to very very carefully drill out the rivets without making the rivet holes bigger.

You could then replace the rivets.

My advice is that as long as it still functions and is still durable, leave it alone. It's an AK and is not supposed to look pretty anyway.

As long as it works and there is no looseness or binding its good to go. I had a customer bring in an AK that the front trunion rivets were falling out. Those had to be replaced. This is a job that requires special tools so unless you have em dont try it at home

So, it's basically a pretty big job then. I think the gun should be ok. We'll see this weekend. Thanks.
