Hey Guys. I need some help. First off i am not very familiar with Ak's and have never owned one.
A buddy of mine just purchased a AK type rifle that is stamped " made by CN Romarm SA/CUGIR in Romania", the only other paper work he has says WASR Sporting Rifile by Century Arms. He brought it to the range and had attempted to shoot some rounds. He had wolf steel cased hollow points. The rifle would not chamber a round. It seemed the bolt was not coming in contact with the round. My first assumption was that the mag was shot and needs a new spring. If you ran the bolt forward slowly by hand you could get a round to catch and chamber, but the rifle would not smoothly grab round after round, either by hand or upon firing. Suggestions on what i should tell this guy to try first. Change the mag? worth rebuilding the mag? seemed like the mag body was in good shape. Could the cheap steel cased ammo be part of the problem? any advice is appreciated. |

A friend of mine a yugo folder that would not feed, not grab the round, stove pipe when it did, jam the round into the ramp and compress the bullet. Luckily he stopped trying to shoot it before it went kaboom from the bullet being pushed half way into the casing.
It turned out the receiver was made wrong and century sent him a new one. |

I do not own an AK and do not have the experience the others do on this forum but...
On my Galil and PSL I took each mag apart and then cleaned everything out (even if it didnt look like it needed to be cleaned). My PSL mags had some goo and rust in them and other assorted stuff from being stored for so long (even though they were 'new' but unissued) Also had to dremel one to get to fit. Galil mags were the same way (used Guatamalen or Costa Rican I think). Both functioned much better after that. Mags still might not be the problem... |

1. Try different magazines.
2. If the rifle malfunctions with more than 1 magazine, try firing the rifle while holding the magazine with the support hand and pushing the magazine up. 3. If the rifle operates properly when fired while pushing the magazine up, return the rifle to Century. The magazine catch/trigger guard are not located properly and as a result the magazine is not positioned properly. 4. If the rifle continues to malfunction, post some pictures. |

Thanks for the responses guys... My buddy has ordered a few more mags. Until they get here he only has the one the rifle came with. I spent some time playing with it yesterday and found that the mag has a bit of wiggle room. As described in #3 above, if i hold the mag back / up then the rifle cycles perfect. If the mag is not held in it will miss the round. So i guess he needs to send it back? Should he wait to try new mags first or just send it back and have them fix it? Thanks again for the help. |

If the rifle won't work wiith several magazines without pushing up on the magazine, it needs to go back. |
