| I thought I purchased a Century WASR 10/63 last week,, but this is not the POS rifle I have read about in the last few weeks while doing my research. . It has an arrow in triangle stamp on the trunion with a 1986 date. The trunion, gas tube, bolt carrier, bolt, dust cover and rear sight all have matching numbers. Things were straight as far as gas block and front sight. The lettering on both sides of the reciever is stamped not engraved. It has the tiniest bit of mag wobble with the two metal magazines I bought and none with the Tapcos that came with it. There were a few shavings in the barrel and gas tube and I removed them. It has a Tapco slant brake on the threaded muzzle, a G2 trigger group, a Century pistol grip and a Century piston. The piston has a inset screw holding it to the bolt carrier. I had seen a picture on one of these with a nasty weld job so that made me happy. I completly disassembled the rifle and found everything rather well done. The only thing I cannot get to work is the rear sight, the moveable part won't advance. It seems to be stuck on P even though the button seems to depress fully. I don't think I need to send it back for that. Just waiting on my ammunition order to arrive so I can check function. I must have been lucky or Century and their Romanian builder have gotten their act together? Thoughts? |

Try some brake cleaner or WD40 on the rear sight. It may be stuck from preservative or corrosion.
And as for luck or the Romanians getting their act together, remember two things: First, most people who buy one of these rifles neither know nor care that gun boards exist. The buy the rifle, shoot it and never post on any gun board. Second, a large number of those who post about "crappy WASRs" have never held one in their hands, much less fired one. How do we know that? They post about Century "building" WASRs. If they had ever held one in their hands, they'd know who built the rifle, since it's marked on the side. Enjoy your new rifle. |

Fixed the rear sight. I like this rifle.
I knew about gun boards since I used to have a couple of FALS, when I moved to California, had to sell them. Now that I am home in Texas, decided to get another rifle, since FALs are out of hand price wise now, decided to go with the AK. Sans firing this, I am impressed. Now for a little tung oil on the wood... |
