I have been slow getting into the AK scene, but I'm almost done with my Saiga conversion and in the last week I finally got two rifles I've been waiting several weeks for. I managed to get my hands on a WASR-22, which came in last week. I ran about 100 rounds through it Saturday and had some issues with extraction. I plan to give her a good run-through again soon. Yesterday I picked up my WASR-2 from my FFL. It's a low-cap model, which I will remedy in a week or two when I have some cash to pick up some bakelites (I love the way those magazines look!) I just can't afford to buy the 4- and 5- packs that guys want to sell on the EE. $25-30 at a time, sure. Anyway, I lucked out and both WASRs have straight sights and gas blocks. They're both downright awesome. I plan to do several things to them. Aside from ordering a bunch of magazines for the WASR-22, I'll probably put black synthetic furniture on it since I have a spare set. For the WASR-2, I plan to get some K-Var plum furniture and thread the muzzle to install an AK-74 brake. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the lower handguard on the WASR-2 is a palm swell handguard. I plan to refinish that set of handguards in a nice red and put them on my Saiga. I'm happy with the rifles, and will be even happier once I get them a bit more personalized.

Nice finds.

The WASR-22 came from Hunter's Lodge. I ordered it probably 3-4 weeks ago and it took them almost two weeks to ship. I think they may be sold out now.

Nice, but I'd scrap those buttstocks.

I'm planning to. The WASR-22's stock is uncomfortable. The screw in the stock and the receiver jab into your hand. The WASR-2 is all right. I will probably leave them as-is for a little while - I'd rather spend available money on mags than on furniture. Furniture will come, though.

Nice rifles. You will love the Wasr-2. I redone mine in K-VAR plum stock set, Tapco piston & trigger assembly, also had my gunsmith cut magwell to make double stack & thread the barrel & install an ak74 style brake. Buy ammo now while it's still cheap!

That's why I got her. I was looking at Tantals, but after all of the horror stories on the Century models I decided to just get the WASR. I'll do the magwell mod and the barrel threading myself so it won't cost too much. It sounds like yours might be exactly what I'm shooting for. I love that plum furniture... it should look just like an AK-74 (minus magwell dimples, of course).
