Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum and have a couple of questions and want your opinions on a few things. I'm in the process of refinishing and staining the wood to look similar to Bullseye's AK. I have a Romanian bakelite pistol grip, but it's pretty dark and I'm not sure if I'm going to use it. Depending on how my wood comes out, I'm planning on buying another lighter colored one from the EE. There are a couple of things I'm not sure about. Should I strip and polish the bolt carrier? I want my gun to look as similar as possible to the Russian AKM. I've seen both black and polished... which is more authentic for the AKM? Should I repaint everything that's supposed to be black.. black? Or should I leave the worn parts and run some steel wool over it to give the rifle a used look? I want to put a red dot sight on a quick release mount to test the accuracy of my rifle. It looks like the BP-02 mount is the best / most authentic mount. What kind of red dot should I be looking for. I don't want real expensive or tactical, just an inexpensive sight that looks like it should go on a basic wood furniture AKM. What do you guys recommend? Is there anything else that I can / should do that is easy and inexpensive to improve my rifle in any way? It's already got a Tapco trigger group. Thanks for the input! |

Just be aware that the "original" pistol grip (the black plastic one from Century) is one of your required U.S. compliance parts. If you replace it with a foreign part, then you'll need to replace another compliance part to remain legal.
I had the same issue, and finally found a U.S.-made wooden pistol grip which I have refinished to match the other furniture. |
