If a person converts a single stack to double stack, do they need to add more US compliance parts to make it legal?

I would think you would need at least 1 more part.  Maybe more.

An AK needs 5 parts replaced with US parts if you don't thread the muzzle, 6 if you do.  Some of the single stack WASR rifles came with a US trigger, hammer, disconnector, but no other US parts.  Check these parts out and go from there to reach the correct number.

acr,

That is what I thought,  I have just gotten into Ak's so I figured I would ask.

I was in my buddies gun shop this am, he was getting ready to convert one for a guy, when I asked if it was 922 compliant, he just stared at me.  He had no idea what I was talking about.  He really only deals in fudds, and has not been involvement with ebrs and such.  I suggested that he call the ATF for an official response.

after I read your answer,

I called him back, He called the ATF, the official answer is that "NO" they may not be legally converted.

The ATF agent didn't even bother to explain the parts count, he just said "under no condition" can you convert it for him.

I don't know that that is the correct answer, but it is the one he got.

The Agent got it wrong. Century has been doing it since the AWB expired. They add 5 US made parts if the muzzle isn't threaded or if the muzzle device is tack welded on, or 6 US parts if the muzzle device is removable.
Once the US parts are added the rifle qualifies as "US made" and can be modified to accept standard AK magazines.

I think this proves that many agents don't know the laws they are to enforce.
